Spooky tones alight the sky as mist intermingles with eerie trees. Late Summer, overripe with aging flowers, gives way to Autumn as she paints the fields orange with pumpkins. Extra dense texture layered into the foreground makes this painting three-dimensional. Combining imagination with real-life references at the magnificent Rodale Institute in Kutztown, this work began en plein air. It underwent several phases of transformation which included exaggerating and intensifying this landscape. With the addition of a crow resting atop a gnarled tree, overlooking the fictitious rolling fields of pumpkins, this painting got me excited for my favorite holiday: Halloween!
